WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? COME AND ENJOY THE NATURAL BEAUTIES OF PARADISE IN MAZATLAN
There are two areas of tourist interest in Mazatlan connected by the famous malecon. A coastal avenue that borders the Puerto Viejo Bay called the Golden Zone, where the hotel area is situated on the north side of the city. Here you will be able to find a great variety of jewelry shops, leather, pottery, and textile products, wood-carved figures, and metal works, as well as galleries and workshops for those wanting to get original art works. In the south part is the Historical Center Zone, with a neoclassic architecture where the visitor can observe the pass of the years when walking through the streets. The recently restored Nineteenth Century buildings have a marked Spanish, French and German influence, such as Plazuela Machado, Angela Peralta Theater, Archeological Museum, Art Museum, March 31st Fortress, Municipal Center of the Arts, Mazatlan's Cathedral Basilica, and San Jose Church.
EL FARO (the Lighthouse), it is located on the Creston island, next to the sport fishing fleets. It is 157 meters high on sea level, plus 48 nautical miles of range that allows the permanent vigilance of the horizon. It is considered the highest natural lighthouse of the world. The building hosting the lighthouse was constructed during the Porfirio Diaz epoch. With the port works made during the 30's, it was no longer a separate island from the city and later it was joined by a spacious and functional breakwater. The lighthouse dates back to 1571.
THE THREE ISLANDS,these islands have become a symbol of Mazatlan. Their names are: Isla de Pajaros (Bird Island), Isla de Venados (Deer Island), and Isla de Lobos (Wolf Island). Only the Deer Island is officially open to the public. It is a place where you can enjoy a day trip, fishing, snorkeling, and swimming and, above all, lots of privacy.
The three islands have tranquil beaches of smooth sand, perfect for spending the day basking in the sun. Your may reach them in small boats (pangas) or in "anfibios" that depart from some particular hotel zone areas.
CLIFF DIVING, Close to the old Mazatlan, following the malecon and the Paseo Claussen you get to the Sanchez Taboada circle where brave youngsters take breath-taking dives in dangerous stunts. You may see the show at day or at night when the divers use torches, making the act especially suspenseful.
FISHERMEN'S MONUMENT, Known as "Los Monos Bichis" it is located on Del Mar and Gutierrez Najera Avenues. It is symbol of the port and shows sculptures with the traditional instruments of the brave and hardworking fishermen.
